Dead Island Has the Best Trailer Ever

Dead Island Has the Best Trailer Ever

No, there is no gameplay in this trailer. Doesn’t matter. Tell me, look me in the eyes and tell me that after watching this thing you don’t want to check this game out. You can’t. You’d be a liar if you did. And a jerk. Do you want to be a liar and a jerk?

What the hell is Dead Island? Where the hell did this come from? Who is making it? Techland. What did they do? Call of Juarez. Who is publishing it? Deep Silver. What have they done? Well, the only thing I can really remember them for recently is Cursed Mountain for the Wii. So we have the developer of an okay cowboy shooter and the publisher of an okay survival horror game making a trailer this friggin’ awesome? Huh. Well, good for you guys. Because this looks phenomenal.

Correction. This trailer looks phenomenal. I have no idea if your game will follow suit. But damn have you gotten me hooked. I can’t wait to see if the gameplay will match the emotional resonance this simple trailer showing the last moments of a family torn apart by shambling horrors creates. And the best part is that this came out of nowhere. I didn’t expect yesterday to discover a new IP that I desperately want to find out more about. But then oops, there it is! This must be what a surprise birthday party feels like.

The only actual gameplay details we have is that this will be a first person open world game where you won’t have easy access to guns. That means whacking a lot of zombies on the head with blunt objects and an emphasis on survival. You can also combine weapons with other objects to soup up your killing instrument of choice ala Dead Rising 2. Sounds good to me. Oh, and there’s four player action as well. More people can join you at any time. Sure smells like Left 4 Dead in here to me. To top it all off, you have RPG elements that allow you to customize your specific class of zombie apocalypse survivor. Gee, that’s a lot like… well, actually, I can’t remember a zombie game with RPG elements in it. Point for you Dead Island. So, to summarize, it is combining the best of Dead Rising, Left 4 Dead and an open world survivalist RPG all into one game? I am okay with that. I am very much okay with that.

Dead Island will be out in the fall of this year for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. This year… seriously guys, where the hell did this game come from?
