E3 2012: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2

E3 2012: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2

Even now, nearly two years after its release, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is a beautiful game. I watched my wife play through the entire game, through the ending (which I have to assume has been sufficiently spoiled by the new Lords of Shadow 2 trailer released by Konami in the lead-up to E3 last week). Since 2010, I have been slowly making my way through the game, a chapter at a time. As we touched upon in the most recent podcast, the game feels very long (because it is long), and I can’t bring myself to sit at it longer than I do in order to beat it. That’s more my fault, than the game’s, though, and seeing what lies in store for us with Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 has reignited my desire to finish the first before next year’s release.

From Tomoyuki Tsuboi, President of Konami:

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 underscores KONAMI’s commitment to bringing only AAA titles to the market. The rich storyline, vibrant graphics and series surprises are unparalleled – making Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 one of the biggest titles to look out for next year.

From Dave Cox, title Producer and Head of Product Planning and Development for Konami:

We are pleased to announce the development of the conclusion to the Castlevania: Lords of Shadow saga, giving players an all-new gameplay experience within the Lords of Shadow universe. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is the most successful Castlevania game to be released in the franchise’s history, and we are looking to provide series fans yet another nail biter, complete with Dracula’s resurrrection and the Belmont clan’s desire for his final destruction.

Gabriel Belmont, the protagonist of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, ends the first title with, “Eu sunt Dracul.” Literally, “I am Dracula.” This ending was absolutely brilliant, and excited me to no end for the prospect of a continuation of this story; A Belmont is Dracula, the eternal enemy of the Belmont clan. The potential is extraordinary, and it looks like Konami intends to live up to that potential with flying colors. We see Gabriel/Dracula in a castle setting, dealing with an attacking force with ease until a final fighter steps into frame. A fighter with long, flowing, white hair. A fighter decked in gold and black. A fighter with a sword.

A fighter who can be none other than Alucard.

When I first saw the trailer, I had not heard of the 3DS bridge title, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate, so I speculated, and did some research that proved my speculation accurate. Take a look for yourself…
