You know, I had never played a Metal Gear or Metal Gear Solid game before this Metal Gear Solid HD Collection. Nearly thirty minutes after I started the first game in the Collection, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, I finally understood the inside joke within the gaming community about the length of the Metal Gear Solid series’ FMVs and cutscenes, since I had yet to actually play the game. What I can also say is that I finally understood the respect and admiration within the gaming community about the beauty of those same FMVs and cutscenes. Aside from the beautifully updated cutscenes and FMVs, the games themselves seem better than what the original platforms were generally capable of. Read the full story

When I first heard that a Voltron game was coming to XBLA, I was pretty excited. As a kid, it was one of the staple cartoons that I would watch. What’s not to love? Giant mechanical lions piloted by space heroes, an even more giant mechanical hero that the lions transform into, and ridiculous dialogue from even more ridiculous enemies; everything you could want in a classic, as the later Power Rangers found out when ripping off Voltron’s great formula. All of this happened in the span of a few seconds, simply from hearing that a Voltron game was coming. But of course, just as every cloud holds the potential to dump torrents of water on you, every game announcement has the potential for disappointment. Mine came in hearing that Voltron would be handled by Behaviour Interactive, the same developers that gave us the inimitably terrible Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime. Having spent the last couple of days playing Voltron, however, I’m glad to say that the difference between the two games is night and day. Read the full story

It’s been over two and a half years since Capcom graced us with Resident Evil 5 (although some fans will disagree with it being a grace), and I believe it’s about time for some new information. Unfortunately, Capcom doesn’t exactly feel the same way, and all information regarding the sixth installment in the long running survival horror series has been shrouded in a heavy blanket of mystery. I’ve decided to go ahead and compile all (that I’m aware of) of the rumors, facts, and lies regarding the upcoming game in this one article. Hopefully, we will soon have more tangible facts instead of speculation. Read the full story

This Thanksgiving, we have many things to be thankful for. Some are thankful for the blessings in their lives, while some are thankful for having such loving friends and family. I’m thankful to have a new Zelda game to play through, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Link’s first true adventure for the Wii. The question is, however, does it soar above the clouds or does it plummet to the ground? Read the full story

I started playing Assassin’s Creed Revelations with the plan to spend a good 10-15 minutes once I arrived in Constantinople free running around, familiarizing myself with the city, and refamiliarizing myself with the mechanics so that I could be sure that I kept my motion fluid and that I knew where my escape routes were. George Takei’s signature “Oh Myyyyy…” suddenly burst forth from my phone, heralding a text message, and I realized that my 10-15 minute plan had turned into a three hour spree of guard killing and free roaming. Whoops. Read the full story

I’ve made no secret of my love for the 90′s cartoon Sonic the Hedgehog, know affectionately to most of its fans as Sonic SatAM. And I will consider it one of the finest shows to come out of American animation. But which of the episodes were the best? Welcome to my top 15 countdown of the best Sonic SatAM episodes.

(Ed: PETA has released a statement saying this was just a joke… really?
“Mario fans: Relax! PETA’s game was meant to be tongue-in-cheek, a fun way to call attention to a serious issue, that raccoon dogs are skinned alive for their fur,” Shakira Croce, PETA’s media coordinator said. “We wish real-life tanukis could fly or swat enemies away with their tails and escape from those who profit from their skins. You can help them by never buying real fur.” from Kotaku)
We all know Mario. He’s been saving Princesses for over 25 years, even if they were in another castle. We’ve grown to love him and his plumber antics. He has become a part of our culture and helped to save the video game industry in the eighties. He’s done everything from cleaning up graffiti to playing golf, but has he also been responsible for animal cruelty? PETA seems to think that he is in Super Mario 3D Land. Read the full story

Is there anything more enjoyable and surreal than playing as cute versions of giant robots fighting a bloody war? Depends on if you’re a Gundam fan.
