Borderlands 2 Gets Season Pass

Today, 2K Games and Gearbox Software have announced that they will offer four new add-on content campaigns following the release of Borderlands 2. Each of these upcoming DLC packs will be available for $9.99 / 800 MSP. Looking to get in early and grab them all at a discount? It seems that 2K/Gearbox have gone the Season Pass route, and are offering a Borderlands 2 Season Pass to grant gamers access to all four add-ons as they’re released. The Season Pass combines all $39.96 / 3,200 MSP worth of add-on content for a one-time price of $29.99 / 2400 MSP. If you’re planning on playing through all of the DLC anyway, that’s one hell of a deal. The DLC is planning on releasing through July 2013. Read the full story

Spec Ops: The Lines Gets Free Co-Op DLC

Did you play Spec Ops: The Line and wish, and wish, and wish that the game had shipped with co-op? Well, guess what? Your wishes have come true! 2K Games has released a free DLC pack bringing co-op to Spec Ops: The Line. I reviewed the title myself, a little while ago, and really enjoyed it. One of my big cons was that the game had no co-op play, but that has now been addressed, and I’ll be revisiting the title to check out the new addition. For more information on this DLC or the game Spec Ops: The Line, please visit www.specopstheline.com.

Review: Spec Ops: The Line (360/PS3)

Aside from the week I spent without power due to the storm that hit the east coast recently, I’ve been playing a lot of Spec Ops: The Line. Developed by Yager and published by 2K Games, Spec Ops: The Line is a third-person shooter that brings a new story to the Spec Ops games. After playing the demo, I wasn’t sure if this would be one of the top games of its genre. I felt like I was playing something early in development that needed a lot of fixing, but when I played the final retail release, Spec Ops: The Line absolutely shocked me at how it turned out. I was happily proved wrong in my earlier judgments on the title. Read the full story

Borderlands 2 Gets Whimsical New Trailer

When I was in fourth grade, I was in a radio commercial back in my hometown of Oklahoma City. The five best readers in the school district were chosen to participate in the commercial, so one day we all drove down to KOMA, the local Oldies station, and started to lay down some mad tracks. Even though they gave me a cassette of the commercial, I wanted to listen to it on the air, so I started listening to the station all the time. This resulted in me getting massive exposure to music from the 50s and 60s, which I quite enjoyed. One of the more entertaining songs (especially for a fourth grader) was a song called “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” (also known as “Wimoweh”). It was full of whimsy and joy. Read the full story

E3 2011: BioShock Infinite

Before I rant on BioShock Infinite I would like to thank 2K for the pie and hospitality. I would also like to add that the food was a reasonable substitute for the Playboy bunnies you had last year. If you read this, I would like the name of your caterer. Anyway, enough about the pie and on to Infinite. Read the full story

A 24kb Download: Finding DLC On Disc

Downloadable Content (DLC) has been a total game-changer this generation for consoles. From PC-like expansions, to map packs, we’ve seen just about every type of digital good sold either on Xbox Live Marketplace or the PSN Store. Under all the glitter and gold of really great DLC, is a very dark world. Something much worse than the nickel and dime DLC trick (I’m looking at you Guitar Hero and Rock Band), I speak of DLC that’s delivered on the game disc. Is this practice ever acceptable, or is this just another way to make gamers pay twice over for content they already own?

In keeping with Duke Nukem’s style and pinache, the special edition will be known as the Balls of Steel edition. With a $100 price tag, the Balls of Steel edition will be available in North America only, and only from Amazon or GameStop. Read the full story

About Marooners’ Rock

Everyone grows up; this is how the world works. Just because we grow decrepit and old, however, does not mean we have to forsake the things that make us happy, childish though they may seem. This is the core concept of Marooners’ Rock; we geek out on the things of our past, present, and future. Society and cultural norms be damned!
