Recommended Listening: The (International) Noise Conspiracy

After the demise of Refused, Dennis Lyxzén created the politically-charged garage-punk band The (International) Noise Conspiracy.  Personally, I have them on my iPhone as “dance punk” because of the groove of their older albums, but that’s just personal taste I suppose. Read the full story

Recommended Listening: Refused

Hear me now, believe me later: The fucking Swedes know how to fucking rock.  I know, the first thing a person thinks of when they think “Sweden” isn’t necessarily unbelievable hardcore music, but maybe something more along the lines of epic boobs.  Well, Refused is the former, and in Sweden, I’m sure they got lots of the latter. Recommended Listening: Enya

I like Enya.  She has a soothing, calming voice set over soothing, calming music.  I picked up this admittedly odd musical choice from my father, who, since as far back as I can remember, has had Clannad and Enya tapes laying around the house. Read the full story

The Smiths

As I mentioned before when doing the article about my top 10 favorite Deftones tracks, I adore The Smiths. From the smooth, angelic voice of Morrissey, to the guitar riffs of Johnny Marr. Read the full story

If I ever did Cosplay…

There have been times in my life where I’ve thought about doing some Cosplay. I’ve never done it before, but if I ever did, I’d want to do it right. Too often I’ve seen pictures of girls wearing things they shouldn’t have, or men just doing it all wrong. With the ladies I’d want to be, first off I’d want to be in tip top shape, but I’d also put in the time to properly get the look right. So with that, these are some of the bitchin’ ladies I’d like to be one day. Read the full story

Final Fantasy VII: It’s not my favorite!

Right now, in that title above, I’ve committed one of the worst crimes among the gaming community: I’m not a fangirl of Final Fantasy VII. For those who pop off about how VII is superior to the rest of the long-running franchise, to not agree with them is suicide. Why? Because they refuse to consider the possibility that their beloved Final Fantasy VII is over-hyped. Read the full story

Why I Hate the X-Men Movies

Ever since 2000, I have had a major thorn in my side, and you can blame the people behind the X-Men movies for that. As something I’ve always held dear to my heart, the X-Men series is that of legend. It’s truly epic, and shouldn’t be tampered with. For years I had been wanting to see my favorite characters up on the big screen, and when it finally happened, I wanted to die.

The Game that Almost Killed Me

I know that in the past I’ve mentioned how a video game almost killed me as a child. No, it wasn’t thrown at my head, nor was I physically beat by somebody wielding a NES controller. It’s actually a little more complicated than that, so let me take you back in time to when I was a little girl… Read the full story

About Marooners’ Rock

Everyone grows up; this is how the world works. Just because we grow decrepit and old, however, does not mean we have to forsake the things that make us happy, childish though they may seem. This is the core concept of Marooners’ Rock; we geek out on the things of our past, present, and future. Society and cultural norms be damned!
