Marooners’ Talk: Episode 044 – “The 44(00)”

So, it’s been just under three months since the gang last got together for a podcast. We’ve had a couple of episodes within that three month period, but the band is back together on a (hopefully) weekly basis now for the first time since early August. Episode 044 of Marooners’ Talk, titled “The 44(00),” sees us returning with wild and amazing new super-powers (not really)! We address the vital happenings of the last three months, like the 38 Studios auction, Halo 4 (brought to you by Doritos and Mountain Dew), Assassin’s Creed III, Mists of Pandaria, Marvel, Anarchy Reigns, Disney/Star Wars, Kickstarter, the portrayal of gamer culture, and much, much more. We run about an hour and a half this week, and we’re still getting our podcasting legs back, so be gentle. Read the full story

Marooners’ Talk: Episode 043 – “Dance Rock Blitz”

With Episode 043 of Marooners’ Talk, “Dance Rock Blitz,” we had a chance to sit and chat with Nick Chester and Annette Gonzalez from Harmonix (Publicist and Dance Central Community Manager, respectively) about Dance Central 3 and Rock Band Blitz. Hear about Dance Central 3′s new story mode, Rock Band Blitz’s Score Wars and Rock Band World, and various other topics, including the one song each of the four of us would want on Dance Central more than any other. Marooners’ Talk: Episode 041 – “Quality Journalism”

As you may or may not have seen, Episode 041 is actually the second half of Episode 040. Episode 041 of Marooners’ Talk, titled “Quality Journalism,” picks up milliseconds after Episode 040 suddenly cuts off. A double recording session, as you’ll hear at the end of this episode, prompted me to simply call the first half Episode 040 and the second half Episode 041. Here, our favorite dead horse comes up: quality journalism. Standards? Who fucking needs them. ENGLISH? A passing fad. Journalistic integrity? Yo mama so fat, she sat on a rainbow and made Skittles…but she still isn’t as big of a joke as journalistic integrity. Andie, Adam, Lindsey, and I reach varying levels of rage and disappointment with the majority of practitioners of our darling craft in this episode. Read the full story

Marooners’ Talk: Episode 040 – “Assassin’s Creed III: Zombio Auditore’s Revolutionary Adventures”

Man, this one went ALL OVER the place. For the first time since all the way back in Episode 023, our Internet famous friend from the Twitters joined us for a gabfest. In Episode 040 of Marooners’ Talk, titled “Assassin’s Creed III: Zombio Auditore’s Revolutionary Adventures,” we discuss the TOTALLY SERIOUS possibility of Assassin’s Creed III DLC that features the reanimation of Ezio Auditore’s corpse during the revolutionary war. Ubisoft, if you’re reading/listening, the ball is now in your court. We recorded nearly two hours, with a change in topic around the one hour mark, so we have two episodes out of this weekend’s efforts. Episode 040, presented here, ends abruptly, and picks up immediately in Episode 041, which will be posted later this week or early next week. Read the full story

Marooners’ Talk: Episode 037 – “The Original Flava”

SURPRISE BONUS EPISODE! As you may or may not know, Lindsey has been AFK as far as the site is concerned for the better part of the last year due to her job at BioWare. As you may or may not ALSO know, she is no longer bound by that restriction, so an impromptu podcast episode was recorded! Episode 037 of Marooners’ Talk, “The Original Flava,” is just Lindsey and myself, just like it was in the old days of the MehCast (for those of you who have been around that long), and it marks the first Marooners’ Talk that Lindsey has been on since EPISODE ELEVEN. The normal Marooners’ Talk Co-Conspirators, Thom and Adam, will (if available) return in this weekend’s normal recording. Read the full story

Marooners’ Talk: Episode 035 – “In Which We Mourn the Loss of Adam”

For the most part over the last few months, we’ve managed to keep our podcasting trio intact. Occasionally, however, either Thom or Adam will totally let everyone down and fail to appear on a weekly episode. Last night, Thom and I found ourselves in just one such situation, as Adam may have died (but we’re fairly certain…pretty sure…hopeful that he’s alive). That being said, allow me to present to you Episode 035 of Marooners’ Talk, “In Which We Mourn the Loss of Adam.” Hopefully this episode title does not end up being literal, after the fact. Marooners’ Talk: Episode 032 – “The Most Authentic Podcast Ever”

Initially, “The Most Authentic Podcast Ever,” the 32nd episode of Marooners’ Talk, was going to focus solely on the wrap-up of E3 2012. The day before we recorded, however, Tom McShea’s “interview” with Greg Goodrich on Medal of Honor Warfighter for GameSpot came to our attention. Tom McShea is a “video game journalist” holding the position of “Associate Editor” for GameSpot, a “games website.” He is also completely ignorant of what a video game is, and should feel bad. Congratulations, GameSpot: your support of Tom McShea and his style of “journalism” has earned you a coveted spot on our Beefs list, alongside such esteemed company as Kotaku and Polygon. Marooners’ Talk: Episode 031 – “Too Cool for E3″

Today’s episode goes just a smidge over our general hour-ish limit, clocking in at about two hours. Ok, maybe more than just a smidge, but it was fun, and screw you for judging me. Episode 031, titled “Too Cool for E3,” covers a wide range of topics. Insert a clever segue here, leading into Dawnguard and its beta, Injustice: Gods Among Us, LEGO Lord of the Rings, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, Hitman: Absolution, Diablo 3, cats, Mists of Pandaria, Bulletstorm, the Gears of War prequel, the Wii and Wii U and Nintendo’s future in the hardware business, Marooners’ Nosh as a response to Kotaku’s “Snacktaku” ridiculousness, and the hypocritical nature of Polygon’s creation as a counter to the standards of the industry while doing nothing more than rehashing the same practices that…well, nevermind. You’ll see. Read the full story

Marooners’ Talk: Episode 030 – “Old People Talking About Cartoons”

With my step-daughter’s birthday last weekend being the extraordinarily exorbitant affair that it was, I was, in the simplest of terms…pooped. Therefore, there was no podcast episode last week. Problem? Tough. This week, “Old People Talking About Cartoons,” Episode 030 of Marooners’ Talk, starts off with a group of almost-30-somethings (the titular “Old People”) discussing (the titular “Talking About”) the recent return (upcoming return at the time of the recording) of Cartoon Network’s Toonami programming block (the titular “Cartoons”). I say “starts off,” because for the FIRST TIME EVER IN A MAROONERS’ TALK PODCAST, we go off on multiple tangents that end up taking up nearly two-thirds of the extra long one-and-a-half hour episode. About Marooners’ Rock

Everyone grows up; this is how the world works. Just because we grow decrepit and old, however, does not mean we have to forsake the things that make us happy, childish though they may seem. This is the core concept of Marooners’ Rock; we geek out on the things of our past, present, and future. Society and cultural norms be damned!
