Thankfully putting our fears of Adam’s demise last week to rest, Adam himself returned triumphantly to this week’s episode of Marooners’ Talk (the 36th of its line), titled, “In Which Rogue Steals Manfaces Instead of Mutant Powers.” Last week, we discussed the Marvel NOW! announcement and what it meant to us (very little). Between the two recordings, I got a look at the Uncanny Avengers #1 cover for Marvel NOW!, and it was fugly (see it below). Deadpool crashed High Moon Studios’ Comic-Con panel to announce his own game, Mass Effect 3 gets brought up again in a negative context (we’re on a roll), and Thom and Adam talk World of Warcraft for a while. For the most part over the last few months, we’ve managed to keep our podcasting trio intact. Occasionally, however, either Thom or Adam will totally let everyone down and fail to appear on a weekly episode. Last night, Thom and I found ourselves in just one such situation, as Adam may have died (but we’re fairly certain…pretty sure…hopeful that he’s alive). That being said, allow me to present to you Episode 035 of Marooners’ Talk, “In Which We Mourn the Loss of Adam.” Hopefully this episode title does not end up being literal, after the fact. After a busy weekend of rocking out, followed by some hardcore napping, we finally got together to record this week’s podcast episode. Episode 034 of Marooners’ Talk, “Do A Barrel Roll!”, covers various topics. We get off to a slow start, but to be fair it was Monday evening, and not every opening can be fireworks and pinatas, so LAY OFF. There are a few moments of positive discussion this week; specifically, our conversations about limited editions being released this year and our shared admiration of Harmonix titles. The rest of the episode, though, sees us revert to our natural negative natures when discussing Activision (Radical Entertainment), The Amazing Spider-Man, Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut, FOX Marvel movies (Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, X-Men), and the flaws with X-Men: First Class and its absolutely awful Blu-Ray special features. I’ve been re-watching a couple of episodes of Scrubs each morning before heading to work over the past few weeks (I’m in Season 6 now), so it should come as no surprise that the title of Marooners’ Talk Episode 033 is reminiscent of most Scrubs episode titles. “My First Import” comes after a missed episode last week, due to houseguests, and is one man short (Thom wasn’t feeling too “hit,” whatever that’s supposed to mean), but we managed to soldier on and get content out to you. We discuss the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut DLC, Skyrim’s Dawnguard DLC, Nintendo’s post-E3 E3 press conference (along with the lack of included power adapter for Japan/Euro 3DS XL and their reactive position vs. their past proactive/innovative position), and Anarchy Reigns’ North American delay to Q1 2013 (along with its availability fully localized and region free in Japan as Max Anarchy on July 5th, hence the episode title). Initially, “The Most Authentic Podcast Ever,” the 32nd episode of Marooners’ Talk, was going to focus solely on the wrap-up of E3 2012. The day before we recorded, however, Tom McShea’s “interview” with Greg Goodrich on Medal of Honor Warfighter for GameSpot came to our attention. Tom McShea is a “video game journalist” holding the position of “Associate Editor” for GameSpot, a “games website.” He is also completely ignorant of what a video game is, and should feel bad. Congratulations, GameSpot: your support of Tom McShea and his style of “journalism” has earned you a coveted spot on our Beefs list, alongside such esteemed company as Kotaku and Polygon. Today’s episode goes just a smidge over our general hour-ish limit, clocking in at about two hours. Ok, maybe more than just a smidge, but it was fun, and screw you for judging me. Episode 031, titled “Too Cool for E3,” covers a wide range of topics. Insert a clever segue here, leading into Dawnguard and its beta, Injustice: Gods Among Us, LEGO Lord of the Rings, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, Hitman: Absolution, Diablo 3, cats, Mists of Pandaria, Bulletstorm, the Gears of War prequel, the Wii and Wii U and Nintendo’s future in the hardware business, Marooners’ Nosh as a response to Kotaku’s “Snacktaku” ridiculousness, and the hypocritical nature of Polygon’s creation as a counter to the standards of the industry while doing nothing more than rehashing the same practices that…well, nevermind. You’ll see. Read the full story

With my step-daughter’s birthday last weekend being the extraordinarily exorbitant affair that it was, I was, in the simplest of terms…pooped. Therefore, there was no podcast episode last week. Problem? Tough. This week, “Old People Talking About Cartoons,” Episode 030 of Marooners’ Talk, starts off with a group of almost-30-somethings (the titular “Old People”) discussing (the titular “Talking About”) the recent return (upcoming return at the time of the recording) of Cartoon Network’s Toonami programming block (the titular “Cartoons”). I say “starts off,” because for the FIRST TIME EVER IN A MAROONERS’ TALK PODCAST, we go off on multiple tangents that end up taking up nearly two-thirds of the extra long one-and-a-half hour episode. I’m going to be punching bears left and right once Assassin’s Creed III comes out. I may spend an entire day just running around punching bears. In “One BILLION Dollars!,” Episode 029 of Marooners’ Talk, we discuss the Assassin’s Creed III gameplay trailer, the successful marketing efforts of the Assassin’s Creed III team in involving the community, the diametrically opposed awful “Team Ghost” marketing campaign for next week’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, The Avengers surpassing the worldwide $1 billion mark, the PS Vita’s lackluster performance, and what we’re looking for out of E3 this year. It may be pretty obvious from the title, but Episode 028 of Marooners’ Talk (“Avengers Assemble”) is all about the recent Dark Knight Rises trailer. That’s right, folks, an hour and a half of dissection and discussion on the trailer for the thrilling climax to Nolan’s Batman trilogy is yours, mere clicks away. Truth be told, while we did venture off into other Marvel properties, and some DC properties, the brunt of the podcast focuses squarely on the recently released Avengers live-action feature film. The film has finished out the weekend smashing multiple records, and for damn good reason. Read the full story

If that episode title doesn’t grab your attention, then I don’t know what will. What’s that? I spelled his name wrong? No, we weren’t lucky enough to have Tom Clancy himself join in and discuss his creation. In “Thom Clancy Talks Ghost Recon,” the 27th episode of Marooners’ Talk, I, along with Thom Clancy, son of Tom Clancy, talk about our experiences with the Ghost Recon: Future Soldier multiplayer beta, how it has improved from the multiplayer presented at last year’s E3, and what we’re looking forward to with the upcoming retail release of the title.
As always, you can listen instantly below or subscribe on iTunes and listen on the go! So, you know, do that. Or not. Whatever. Jerk.
