When someone says that a game is not worth $59.99 solely because of its length, I always throw Vanquish out as an example of an incredibly high quality, yet short, experience that is unequivocally worth full retail pricing. If a game is both short and underwhelming, then I can understand the argument, but simply discounting a game based on length will always result in an impassioned argument of…Vanquish. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is as short as Vanquish (shorter, if you don’t count the length of Revengeance’s cutscenes), but is it good enough to join Vanquish as a cornerstone in the argument of quality vs. quantity? I know this is a little late (what’s two weeks between friends?), but here it is anyway. If you haven’t read our PAX Prime coverage of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, then what the hell are you waiting for?! Get on it, and get excited about this game. You know what’ll help you get even more excited? Limited Edition details. Announced two weeks ago, the Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance Limited Edition will be available on February 19, 2013, and includes the full copy of the game, the official soundtrack, a limited edition 2-sided Steelbook, and an exclusive high-frequency (?) katana blade plasma lamp.
No pricing has been announced, but who doesn’t want a sword lamp?

As I’ve said before, I’ve never been a huge fan (or really, any kind of fan at all) of the Metal Gear franchise of games. I find the forced stealth gameplay through extreme punishment for derivation from that gameplay to be contrary to my enjoyment of the experience. I appreciate all that it has accomplished and what it means for its fans, but it’s not a game/series that I can sit down and truly enjoy myself with. With all that in mind, it should come as no surprise that I’ve never really anticipated a Metal Gear title. Imagine my surprise when Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance became one of my most anticipated titles of 2013. Read the full story

I’m not a huge fan of the Metal Gear Solid series. I can appreciate it for what it is, but the gameplay itself is just not my preferred style. I never thought I’d find myself excited for a Metal Gear game, to be honest. Then I heard that Platinum Games was helming the next Metal Gear, titled Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, and a spark of interest lit within me. Platinum Games is currently my favorite developer, with titles like MadWorld, Bayonetta, Vanquish, and Max Anarchy kicking all sorts of ass, so seeing their take on a universe I appreciate but don’t enjoy playing in was definitely intriguing. From what we saw at E3, and from this recently released gameplay video showing what seems to be the game’s tutorial, it looks like I was right to pay attention. Read the full story

See, because it’s revenge…and vengeance…Revengeance. Ok, so ignore the fact that “revenge” and “vengeance” are synonyms with nearly identical definitions. Think of it as just a really badass sounding name, and when you think of it that way, you’ll realize that it doesn’t HAVE to make sense, it just HAS to sound badass. Which it does. Regardless, Konami gave us a look at Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance at this year’s E3, and I like what I see. Do you want to know why I like what I see? Two words: Platinum Games. Read the full story

The original idea for this episode of the Marooners’ Talk podcast was to really get into our anticipated titles for the rest of calendar year 2012. While we eventually got around to that, I believe our first 30-45 minutes focused on Internet providers, Doctor Who, used games, and various other topics. Come to think of it, the last 15 minutes kind of got off topic, too, so you’ve got about 45-50 minutes of anticipation discussion in “Looking Forward,” Episode 023 of Marooners’ Talk.
