WINNER ANNOUNCED: Congratulations to ilRadd for winning a PS3 copy of The Amazing Spider-Man! Thanks for participating, and good luck in the future.
There are few experiences in gaming as exhilarating and joy inducing as swinging your way through New York as Spider-Man. Spider-Man 2 did it best, but The Amazing Spider-Man did it prettier. There is no Spider-Man game that gives you a better visual representation of Spider-Man’s agility and acrobatics than The Amazing Spider-Man, and now you have a chance to get your hands on a copy of it for the PlayStation 3! Ignoring the fact that Spider-Man seems able to anchor the end of his web to pure AIR in order to swing sometimes, the game itself is absolutely addictive. The contest starts now and runs through 12:01am EST Wednesday, July 25th. This is 9:01pm PST Tuesday, July 24th, so make sure you latecomers enter on time! Read the full story

For the most part over the last few months, we’ve managed to keep our podcasting trio intact. Occasionally, however, either Thom or Adam will totally let everyone down and fail to appear on a weekly episode. Last night, Thom and I found ourselves in just one such situation, as Adam may have died (but we’re fairly certain…pretty sure…hopeful that he’s alive). That being said, allow me to present to you Episode 035 of Marooners’ Talk, “In Which We Mourn the Loss of Adam.” Hopefully this episode title does not end up being literal, after the fact. Activision and Beenox have had an interesting time with Marvel’s most popular hero. Shattered Dimensions was an awesome love letter to the fans, and Edge of Time managed to have a great story (despite a lot of people disliking it). With the history of Spider-Man titles being what it is, does The Amazing Spider-Man manage to soar, or does it plummet? This time, Beenox has done the movie tie-in game (a scary prospect), but they’ve done a lot more than that. They may have actually nailed what it takes to have the definitive Spidey game. After a busy weekend of rocking out, followed by some hardcore napping, we finally got together to record this week’s podcast episode. Episode 034 of Marooners’ Talk, “Do A Barrel Roll!”, covers various topics. We get off to a slow start, but to be fair it was Monday evening, and not every opening can be fireworks and pinatas, so LAY OFF. There are a few moments of positive discussion this week; specifically, our conversations about limited editions being released this year and our shared admiration of Harmonix titles. The rest of the episode, though, sees us revert to our natural negative natures when discussing Activision (Radical Entertainment), The Amazing Spider-Man, Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut, FOX Marvel movies (Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, X-Men), and the flaws with X-Men: First Class and its absolutely awful Blu-Ray special features. Bruce Campbell has a long history with the Spider-Man franchise. His childhood friendship with director Sam Raimi resulted in highly memorable cameo positions in the original trilogy, and his distinctive voice and style have placed him in yet another Spider-Man position, with a new role as the Extreme Reporter in Beenox and Activision’s The Amazing Spider-Man video game, coming out next week. Bruce Campbell takes us behind the scenes and describes both his role in the game and how he prepared for it. Read the full story

Stan “The Man” Lee is responsible for creating and co-creating a ridiculously large percentage of Marvel’s stable of comic heroes and villains. He is a true treasure for fans of the medium, and deserves every bit of respect and adoration he receives. Now, Beenox and Activision are putting Stan Lee in the shoes of one of his longest lasting and most popular characters: Spider-Man. Swing gracefully through the skies of Manhattan and save its citizens as Stan Lee himself, with all of the abilities and powers of your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. The Stan Lee skin is available only for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 pre-order customers. Read the full story

The original idea for this episode of the Marooners’ Talk podcast was to really get into our anticipated titles for the rest of calendar year 2012. While we eventually got around to that, I believe our first 30-45 minutes focused on Internet providers, Doctor Who, used games, and various other topics. Come to think of it, the last 15 minutes kind of got off topic, too, so you’ve got about 45-50 minutes of anticipation discussion in “Looking Forward,” Episode 023 of Marooners’ Talk.
